The Wayports Racing League (WRL), a simulated racing competition spanning 10 races, has announced its second season which is set to begin on May 8th.
Featuring drivers from the Wayports community of companies and academic institutions, the WRL had its first season ending on April 17th, with Interlink France taking the teams championship title and their driver Mariano winning the honors for the drivers championship.
That first season was broadcast by UCL TV, the television channel based in Uruguay, reaching more than 80 million homes in Latin America. Now that the competition has heated up, and the starting grid plans to feature 20 drivers, the league organizers have signed an extension to their broadcast deal with UCL TV.
The races will continue be streamed live with commentators on the Wayports YouTube Channel, featuring live interviews with drivers, and there are plans in motion to organize a rewards system for season 3.
Wayports, the virtual world for productivity and events, hopes to establish a year-long schedule with WRL where there could be 4 or 5 seasons. It is a commitment that goes beyond the initial casual networking aspect of the league, and into creating a community around a valuable skillset, with the potential of developing a nascent market.
